CHARLESTON (WCSC) - An outdated Joint Base Charleston runway is set to receive a makeover.
Runway 15/33 will undergo reconstruction beginning June 18. Construction on the 9,000 foot long runway is expected to take 9 to 12 months to complete.
The contract was awarded to DWG and Associates out of Colorado Springs, Colorado by the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency, who will also oversee the project.
Runway 15/33 is the longest of Joint Base Charleston's two runways. Portions of the runway were built in the 1940's.
All air traffic will use Joint Base Charleston's secondary runway, Runway 03/21, until construction is completed.
