Live 5 Most Wanted suspect captured in Maryland

Posted: Updated:
WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

United States Marshals have captured a Live 5 Most Wanted suspect.

Authorities say 20-year-old Demetrius Antonio Burks was taken into custody in Maryland on Thursday.

Burks was wanted on charges of armed robbery and possession of a handgun during commission of a violent crime in connection with a May 3 armed robbery at Castlewood Townhouses on Savage Road.

"Burks approached two females who were going into the apartment complex and proceeded to try to grab one of their purses," said Cpl. Fred Bowie.

"The person resisted. He produced a firearm, threatened to kill one of them and was able to take cash from both victims."

Bowie said the victims could have been killed.

"You got a person who's obviously desperate in Burks there, and he could have shot either one of them or both of them, that sort of thing."

Investigators say one of the women picked Burks out of a photo lineup.
