Mt. Pleasant chief recommends changes for police department

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Changes could be coming to the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Chief Harry Sewell is proposing changes that could mean more promotions in the 145-officer agency.

For at least 20 years the Mt. Pleasant Police Department has operated with a chief, one major, and three captain, but Sewell says with the town's growth and the nearly tripling of the number of officers during that time, changes are necessary.

The plan also calls for the town's uniformed officers to be divided into two zone, North and South.

The restructuring could come up for consideration at next week's town council meeting.
