The Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour makes its first stop in the Lowcountry Thursday night in Summerville.
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis will be at The Red Pepper from 5 to 6 p.m. meeting and greeting folks, but more importantly, he'll be checking to see if you have any unclaimed cash waiting for you.
The Palmetto Payback is the state's unclaimed property program. Currently, South Carolina holds over 1 million accounts totaling $300 million. The property transferred to the program comes from utility deposits, dormant bank accounts, old life insurance policies, stock, and un-cashed payroll checks.
The program does not include land property or vehicles.
Last year the treasurer's office returned nearly $13 million to folks in South Carolina.
The Red Pepper is located at 709 Main Street.
