Charleston Co. moving forward with plans to build downtown skate park

Plans to bring skate park to downtown Charleston are officially underway.

Pour It Now, a non-profit organization that advocates for public skate parks, spoke with Tom O'Rourke of the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) Thursday night to get the wheels rolling on a downtown skate park, according to the groups Facebook page.

Sarah Reynolds with the CCPRC says the project is moving into the planning, design, permitting, and construction document phase. This will be a capital project.

The CCPRC, the skate park design team, and the City of Charleston have been working on this project since November of 2011.

Construction on the new skate park is expected to begin in a year.
