CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two named storms already and most likely and more to come. That's why the governor says now is the time to have your hurricane evacuation plan ready.
Gov. Nikki Haley was joined by state and local officials Friday afternoon at the emergency operations center in North Charleston.
The governor pointed out that more people than ever live along the coast and many have never worried about hurricanes before. She explained why folks will no longer be asked to evacuate voluntarily.
"What we found is the voluntary evacuations tend to make people more complacent," Haley said."They don't move as fast as they should, they don't make the decisions as fast as they should."
The governor also said people need to get familiar with their evacuation routes if they are told to go.
