Inmate back in custody after mistakenly released

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say an inmate who was mistakenly released is back in custody.

Police say 54-year-old Mary C. Frasier was released from jail Sunday morning and picked up on Monday. The booking sheet said Frasier was supposed to serve her sentence on the weekends, but that was wrong information, according to a sheriff's office spokesman.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said Frasier was arrested Tuesday on charges of unlawful use of a telephone. She was sentenced to 30 days at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

On Friday, Frasier reported to the detention center to begin her sentence. While being booked, authorities say the terms of her sentence were improperly documented to show that her sentence was to be served on the weekends.

Frasier was then improperly released from the detention center on Sunday.

At 9 a.m. Monday morning, Frasier was located at her home and returned to the detention center.
