Sheriff Cannon to receive the Patriot Award

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Sheriff Al Cannon's support of those who serve in the Nation Guard has earned him an award.

The Employer Support of Guard and Reserves (ESGR) will present Sheriff Cannon with the Patriot Award on Wednesday, June 13 at 10 a.m. The award is given to supervisors or agency heads that support employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve Military units.

Recipients are nominated by members of the National Guard or Reserve unit to the ESGR who then selects the award winners. The award has been presented across the United States.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has 14 sworn personnel assigned to the Guard and Reserves with five on current activation, and the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center has 15 personnel with three on active duty, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
