Severe weather causing a mess in the Lowcountry

CHARLESTON (WCSC) - After a relatively pleasant afternoon, dark clouds have rolled into Charleston and brought with it some severe weather that is causing headaches.

Heavy rain and gusts of winds have resulted in delays on Lowcountry roads and power outages in homes.

There are reports of debris in the road on I-26 westbound near Royle Road in Summerville, and a tree is in the road on Ashley River Road near Pierpont Avenue in West Ashley.

According to SCE&G, there are 273 power outages in Charleston County, and another 108 outages in Berkeley County.

"Look for heavy rainfall, gust winds, some isolated flooding and very dangerous lightning," warns Live 5 News Meteorologist Bill Walsh. He says the storm is moving south at about 10 mph.
