WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say they are investigating a string of gas station armed robberies in West Ashley which appear to be related.
Charleston Police Department officers and Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to armed robbery and attempted armed robbery calls at gas stations at 3969 West Ashley Circle, 2407 Ashley River Road, and at 503 Main Road around midnight Wedesday.
In each incident the suspect was described as a black male wearing a hat and a white bandana covering his mouth and nose area. In two of the reports, the hat is described as being white, while the other report states witnesses said it was blue. One witness said the suspect had a slim build and appeared to be about 5'7" tall.
The incident report from the West Ashley Circle incident, located near the corner of Bees Ferry Road and Glenn McConnell Parkway, describes the suspect's vehicle as a gold Chevy Tahoe.
A sheriff's office report from the Circle K burglary on Ashley River Road describes the vehicles as a tan truck. In that incident, deputies say the suspect forced employees to empty the cash register before he fled the scene.
At the Murphy's station at West Ashley Circle, the victim said she was leaving work and had just gotten into her car when the aforementioned suspect tried to gain entry into her vehicle and displayed a handgun. However, the door was locked and she was able to speed off.
