James Island man charged with dealing drugs near school

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a suspected James Island drug dealer after drugs and cash were found during a traffic stop in West Ashley.
The Charleston Police Department charged 25-year-old Kenneth Allen Smalls with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school.
A police officer was on patrol Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. when he said he saw a vehicle turn left onto Wantoot Drive from North Sherwood Drive without using a turn signal.
An incident report states that the vehicle then turned left onto White Drive without using a turn signal.
At that point the officer stopped the vehicle. The officer said he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver, Smalls, to step out.
Police confiscated 445 grams of marijuana and nearly $1200 cash from the suspect's vehicle.
Authorities are continuing the investigation.
