Report: Inmate attacks correctional officer June 14, 2012 at 7:57 PM EST - Updated June 27 at 7:40 AM ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center inmate may be looking at more charges after punching a correctional officer in the face on Monday. According to an incident report, the correctional officer was sent to the hospital for minor injuries after being assaulted by a 23-year-old St. Matthews male inmate. The report said the inmate was shouting about his medication, when the officer instructed him to return to his cell. According to the report, the inmate became upset and when he returned to his cell he began kicking the door. The officer said when he opened the door to tell him to stop; the inmate punched him in the face. The inmate then jumped the officer and began choking him, the report said. The officer was able to break free and use his stun gun on the inmate, and used the stun gun again when the inmate tried to rush him. A short time later, other officers arrived and put the inmate back in his cell.
