MOUNT PLEASANT (WCSC) - A Guinness World Record was set Friday afternoon on the deck of the USS Yorktown.

Students participating in the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum's summer educational camp set the record for the longest line of shoes to traverse an aircraft carrier flight deck. A total of 1027 shoes spanned the length of the USS Yorktown flight deck stretching 888 feet!

The record was made possible in part by Goodwill, which provided shoes for the cause.

Officials with the summer camp submitted forms to the Guinness Book of World Records which approved the attempt and confirmed that it would be a record.

The summer educational camp is hosted in partnership with the Town of Mount Pleasant. Participants spend the week performing a number of activities including entomology, botany and oceanography. Friday's record setting event concluded the camp.
