NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - An early Monday morning traffic stop led to officers seizing drugs and a handgun.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department arrested 30-year-old William Holmes after police say they found 9.7 grams of cocaine and a .380 cal Ruger hand gun with its serial numbers removed in his car following a traffic stop.

Police say two vehicles were spotted parked in a roadway near 3307 Ottawa Avenue at 4:38 a.m. on Monday morning. According to a report, when an officer approached the two cars, Holmes sped off before pulling over at a residence at 3339 Ottawa Avenue.

Officers say Holmes was driving under a suspended license, and the vehicle he was driving was a Nissan Altima rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Holmes was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
