CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting which happened last week in downtown Charleston.

Police say 29-year-old Joshua Robinson is responsible for the shooting death of 23-year-old Maliek Byers. The drug-related shooting happened around 3 a.m. last Thursday near the corner of Hanover and Reid streets, police say.

He is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Robinson was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.

According to court records, Robinson was also charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Earl Rogers, gunned down on Father's Day in June 2008.  However, that charge was dropped in 2010.
