FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - A man who was arrested on a simple possession of marijuana charge out of North Charleston earlier this week has been charged in connection with the officer-involved shooting on Folly Beach last weekend.

Folly Beach Public Safety Chief Dennis Brown said 25-year-old Clayton Eugene Lemon Jr., of Goose Creek, was arrested on Monday on that simple possession charge, and then was connected to the incident last weekend.

He is charged with attempted murder after authorities say he tried to run over a Folly Beach officer with his vehicle on East Indian Avenue around 7 p.m. Saturday.  The officer then fired shots at Lemon's vehicle.

The officer had responded to a report of vehicle burglaries when the incident occurred, a report states.

Although Lemon has been at the Charleston County Detention Center since Monday, he still has not appeared in bond court.
