Coroner identifies man killed in I-26 wreck in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The coroner's office has identified a 30-year-old man who was killed after his van ran off I-26 and struck several trees in Berkeley County Monday afternoon.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says Laurence Kelly Engelhardt, Jr. of Goose Creek died after his van ran off the highway, struck several trees and caught fire.

Engelhardt was pronounced dead on scene and the death ruled accidental. Authorities say no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol,  the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-26 at mile marker 195, near Sheep Island Road around 2:30 p.m.

The accident was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
