Junior
third-baseman Richie Shaffer (Charlotte, NC) was named a first-team
All-American by Perfect Game on Monday. Shaffer, who was named as
the first-team designated hitter, became the 24th first-team All-American in
Clemson history and the first Tiger third-baseman to receive first-team honors
since Jeff Baker in 2002.
Shaffer led the Tigers in many offensive categories in 2012. He batted
.336 with 21 doubles, two triples, 10 homers, 46 RBIs, 63 walks, and a .448
on-base percentage. In early June, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays
with the #25 overall pick in the draft.
