CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)
The people of Charleston are ready for a Cook-Out.
Cook-Out Restaurant has opened its windows in West Ashley and is serving food "Cooked Outdoors Style". Located at the former Checkers at 2036 Savannah Hwy, the building has been under construction for numerous months to bring the North Carolina-based fast-food chain to the Lowcountry.
A stop by the fast food chain for lunch on Friday featured a 10-person deep walk-up line at one point and cars snaking through the dual drive-thru lanes. Fortunately, the long lines do not translate to long wait times. A peek inside the building showed roughly 15-20 workers slinging milkshakes and burgers one after another.
The roughly 1,400-square-foot restaurant does not have dine-in seating, but does feature two drive-thru windows similar to the Checkers that previously stood at that location. Customers are also able to order food at a walk-up window.
This will not be the only Cook-Out to hit Charleston.
Andrew Gilbert, project superintendent for Arc LLC Construction Company, says construction will now begin on another Cook-Out located on University Blvd. in North Charleston.
