FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - A video on YouTube shows a brawl on Folly Beach that led to multiple arrests and injured police officers on July 4th.

You can hear the crowd chanting while police wrestled with a suspect. Police say officers were trying to arrest a man for disorderly conduct, when a crowd then formed around them.

Police Chief Dennis Brown says police received complaints Wednesday about a boisterous crowd at 10th Avenue East and the rowdiness escalated to a bad situation quick. According to authorities, a DJ was set up in the area and young people had arrived by the busloads.

Authorities say people in their teens and 20's started yelling inappropriate words, throwing beer on cops and even striking police with wiffle ball bats. Brown says thousands of people were gathered dancing, partying and drinking when they became violent.

"Fists were flying. People were hitting the ground," said David Hornor, a visitor from Ohio."A lot of people were highly intoxicated yesterday."

According to investigators, at about 2:30 p.m., police were trying to arrest one man for disorderly conduct. A crowd then formed around them, according to investigators.

Eventually police, with the help of Charleston County Sheriff's deputies, arrested four people. During the incident, the rowdy crowd began chanting "U-S-A!" over and over as police wrestled with a suspect to make an arrest.

"Charges ranging from inciting a riot to disorderly conduct to violation or city ordinances. Five officers were injured. Several had to receive medical attention," Brown said.

"There were two guys fighting. One of them tased. The other got taken down by three cops," said Whitt Sherrill, a visitor from Columbia.

Investigators say four police officers and one Charleston County Sheriff deputy suffered minor injuries.

Authorities charged 19-year-old Michael Harvey of Murfreesboro, TN, 20-year-old Alex Presby of Charlotte, 22-year-old Adam Shuster of Myrtle Beach, and 23-year-old Adam Werney of Charleston with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested 22-year-old Hunter Meadows who was charged with disorderly conduct and assault on police officers.

Three others were also arrested on the beach 22-year-old James Restrepo of Greenville, 25-year-old Daniel Fernell of Johns Island and 23-year-old Stanley Coleman were charged with disorderly conduct.

"It turned into a much better situation by the end of the whole incident," Brown said. "A lot of folks down there just want to come to the beach and enjoy themselves.
