WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) -
Two Winnsboro churches are coming together to feed a community. After they serve the main dish, neighbors get a helping of encouragement and prayer.
They call themselves the Crock Pot Ministry.
Norma Branham and about 25 volunteers prepare the food for the community. On today's menu, it's chicken, pasta, and fruit. The volunteers are members of the First Church of the Nazarene and Shady Grove Independent Church.
The Crock Pot Ministry has been serving food in the community for 3 years. They use church funds to prepare the meals.
"We're able to share God's message with each other," Branham said.
With the people they serve every first Saturday of the month, the group delivers packaged meals to the less fortunate, sick, and elderly.
"The good thing about it is they ask, 'How much do I owe you?' and I say, 'It's free.' They say, 'Thank you, baby,'" ministry worker Lelia Woodward said.
Today, the group will help out 165 people. The group spreads out to three areas in Winnsboro and one out of town.
Saturday's first stop was the Laurelwood Assisted Living Community.
Seth Cameron takes care of his autistic cousin in Laurelwood. He's thankful for the food and the group's support.
"I learned wherever you can help, you can help someone in need," Cameron said. "I want to let them to know it's appreciated."
Sandra Ramsey also looks forward to the meals from the Crock Pot Ministry. And their words of wisdom too.
"You can look at them and tell there good Christian people," Ramsey said. "You can see it in their face."
It's the prayers that really help the most, according to ministry members. They are words that release faith, words that encourage, and words Branham says that inspire the people she meets.
"Each person that we serve and pray with has a need," Branham said. "It makes us feel better after we leave."
