The North Carolina boys and girls pulled off a doubleheader sweep for the 2nd year in a row in the Clash of the Carolinas with the boys beating South Carolina 1-0 while the girls won 2-1.
Trey Hemphill scored the lone goal of the boys game in the 33rd minute on a penalty kick when South Carolina goalie Hunter Greer of Wando was called for taking a player down in the penalty area.
Greer had 4 saves on the day for the Sandlappers, but South Carolina couldn't get anything past the duo of Holland Hammond and Jaron Bradley who combined for 7 saves for the Tar Heels.
North Carolina now holds a 2-1-3 advantage over South Carolina in the 6 year event.
On the ladies side, the Tar Heels continued their dominance of the Sandlappers in the Clash of the Carolinas with a 2-1 victory. They've now won this event 5 of 6 times.
The game was scoreless until the 2nd half when North Carolina put pressure on South Carolina goalie Emily Gossen of Academic Magnet and a rebound off one of her deflections was knocked into the goal by one of her own defensemen to give NC a 1-0 lead.
Gossen had 4 saves on the day, the most in the game, but was beaten a second time when Logan Vitale scored in the 78th minute to make it 2-0.
South Carolina would answer back 1 minute later as Natalie Lackey scored the Sandlappers only goal, but it wouldn't be enough. South Carolina was outshot 13-7.
