Local teen author writes his first novel

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Joseph Landing loves to spend time with his family and loves to write.

"When you write, there are no limits, there are no boundaries," Joseph said."You can do whatever you want."

The 16 year old is a Wando High School student and recently published his first novel this past February. Joseph started writing the book entitled Tamechactee Arrow Soul at the tender age of 13.

"I read a lot when I was younger. I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy and none of them satisfied that story that I was looking for, " Joseph said.

Joseph's mother, Kathy, said she and her husband were skeptical at first when her son came to her and said he was writing his first novel.

"We both agreed this was not your ordinary story written by a 13 or 14 year old and that's when we turned it into a manuscript, " Kathy said.

"I started with the idea of a kid running away from school and before I knew it, I had a full length novel on my hands, " Joseph said.

Kathy says the first step was to find an agent for her son. After 27 rejections, Kathy decided to take matters into her own hands. In the end, Kathy had her son's book self-published.

"I think I could bring my writing career into screenplay writing for movies," Joseph said. "That seems like a pretty good goal for now."
