Sheriff's office investigating death at club following struggle

SANTEE, SC (WCSC) -

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death that happened at a night club in Santee early Thursday morning.

Investigators were called out to the Gentleman's Club on Bass Drive shortly after 3 a.m. in reference to a shooting.

According to authorities, a 53-year-old Vance man was escorted out of the club by two security guards after being disruptive.

An incident report states that the man pulled a gun on the security guards once they were outside the club. Deputies say the guards and the man then began fighting for the weapon.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said that the gun went off and a 19-year-old security guard was shot in the hip. According to Ravenell, the Vance man "was struck during the altercation, fell to the ground and never got up."

"We are in the initial stages of this investigation," Ravenell said."We are analyzing forensic evidence and awaiting autopsy results to determine cause of death and the timeline of events."

The security guard who was shot was treated.
