Report: Police chief accused in fatal shooting was fired from job

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The police chief accused of shooting and killing a man in front of town hall was terminated from his job.

Officials say Richard Combs shot 54-year-old Bernard Bailey back on May 2, 2011. Combs was placed on administrative leave following the incident.

Last November, Eutawville's mayor hired a new chief and confirmed that Combs had left the department. It wasn't clear if he had resigned or was terminated.

But newly released documents now confirm Combs was fired on Nov 1, 2011.
