Monica McConnell has lost three members of her family over the past month; two dogs and her former husband.

Forty-seven-year-old Bobby Joe McConnell was charged Wednesday with three counts of Ill Treatment of Animals. The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office reports that McConnell allegedly bound three dogs with duct-tape and dumped them into the International Paper Canal in Georgetown. While one dog survived, the two others died.

"This was my daughter's dog and my mom's dog," Monica McConnell says. "We're just devastated about the whole incident. We never dreamed it was him."

Monica says the surviving dog belonged to her daughter. The dog is currently under the care of the Saint Frances Animal Center.

"She's devastated, as any 12 year old would be with her dog and then to know that her daddy did it on top of that -- or may have done it, should I say," McConnell says.

Lt.. Neil Johnson of the Georgetown Sheriff's Department says investigators do not know of a motive for the crimes.  McConnell says she does not know of any reasoning, either. "We're sad.  We're confused.  We're angry -- just devastated," she says.

Bobby Joe McConnell was placed in the Georgetown County Detention Center under $15,000 cash/surety bond.
