AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the victim of a fatal late-night car accident that left one man dead and two others injured.

Officials say 20-year-old John Taylor Early of Mt. Pleasant died of blunt force trauma after a single-vehicle crash on Doar Road in Awendaw. The accident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Highway 17.

Authorities say the vehicle, a white 1996 Honda Accord, ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Investigators say excessive speed may have contributed to the accident, and that alcohol was found in the vehicle.

The Charleston County Rescue Squad was called to the scene to free the victims from the vehicle. The two injured passengers in the vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital by EMS.

The wreck shut the road down for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the wreck.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
