SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville Police Department says a missing 2-year-old girl has been found in Lane, NC in Haywood County, about 25 miles west of Asheville.
Investigators say Haley Renae Briggs was found safe and Haley's mother, 19-year-old Megan Marie Briggs, will be charged in the incident.
"It was just pure relief," said Haley's grandfather, Robert Briggs, after hearing Haley had been found safe. "I've been crying because I was so worried about Haley and I can't wait to get her in my arms again."
According to Summerville police, Haley was abducted from her grandparent's home at 122 High Bridge Road at 4 a.m. Thursday. Police say Megan Marie Briggs broke into her adoptive parent's home and took the child.
Police say Megan stole a pair of car keys from the house as well, using the car to get away. Authorities then were able to locate both in Haywood, NC.
"We're so grateful to God and for what everybody's done and the prayers...We really appreciate it. We thank you," Robert Briggs said.
Megan Briggs is expected to face charges of kidnapping, burglary and grand larceny when she's brought back to South Carolina.
