GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - After several Grand Strand and Pee Dee towns moved to a non-smoking environment, a new change has been passed for bars and restaurants in Georgetown.

The City of Georgetown must now comply with a new ban that will stop bars from staying open later than 2 a.m.

In a five to two vote, Georgetown City Council approved the final reading of the ordinance Thursday night.

Until the passing of the ban, the law required bars to stop selling liquor by 2 a.m. Bar owners, however, could continue to serve wine and beer into the early hours of the morning.

Georgetown Police Chief Paul Gardner says law enforcement will start passing out letters about the new law immediately.
