BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Court records show Beaufort County's probate judge announced he was leaving office just a month after three separate sexual harassment complaints were filed against him.
The Beaufort Gazette obtained the complaints through a Freedom of Information Act request. They were made in May against 84-year-old judge Frank Simon.
Simon announced in June he was retiring with two years left on his term.
One woman complained Simon spoke in detail about his genitals, another said the judge asked if she was wearing underwear, and the third said Simon asked her if she still loved him after apologizing for previous inappropriate comments.
Simon told the newspaper he hasn't been himself since his wife of 45 years died in March 2011 and the complaints didn't give the full context of what happened.
