BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (AP/WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the man who drowned in a canal near Moncks Corner over the weekend.

The victim is 24-year-old William Troy Lee Jr., of Cayce.

SCDNR officials say it happened around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, under the Highway 52 Bridge in the Tail Race Canal, which is below Lake Moultrie, near Moncks Corner.

Coroner Bill Salisbury says someone called 911 and said a man had jumped from a bridge support under the U.S. Highway 52 bridge. Witnesses said the man surfaced once before disappearing beneath the surface.

Rescue crews found Lee's body around 10:30 p.m.

The coroner ruled the death accidental.
