The Boston Bruins will be the new NHL affiliate for the South Carolina Stingrays according to a report in the Providence Journal on Tuesday.
The Stingrays would not confirm or deny the report but did say an announcement on their new NHL affiliate could come either Wednesday or Thursday. The Bruins did not immediately respond to an email.
The Rays have been looking for a new NHL team since early July when the Washington Capitals ended their 8 year partnership with the team. The Capitals entered into an agreement with the Reading Royals, who were the Bruins ECHL affiliate last year.
The Bruins already have one former Stingray on the roster. Rich Peverley, who helped Boston win a Stanley Cup in 2011, spent the 2004-2005 season in Charleston. Stingrays President Rob Concannon is also a Massachusetts native.
