Former correctional officer indicted for bribes, sex act

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A federal grand jury has charged a former Williamsburg correctional officer after she allegedly accepted bribes, provided contraband, and had sexual relations with an inmate.

Court documents state 35-year-old Latanya Lewis, of St. Stephen, engaged in a sexual act with an inmate, accepted money in return for failing to enfore prison rules and regulations with regard to an inmate, and brought contraband to the Williamsburg, South Carolina Federal Correctional Institution.

The maximum penalty Lewis could receive is 15 years imprisonment.

The case was investigated by agents of the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Justice.
