Goose Creek High graduate killed in Afghanistan

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The U.S. Department of Defense announced that a graduate of Goose Creek High School died last week while on dismounted patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Army Pfc. Julian L. Colvin, 21, died July 22 after suffering wounds from an enemy improvised explosive device. Colvin, originally from Birmingham, Alabama, moved to Goose Creek in 2008.

According to a former teacher of Colvin's at Goose Creek High School, he graduated from the school in 2010.

Colvin, along with 27-year-old Staff Sgt. Richard L. Berry who also died from the explosion, was assigned to the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The two soldiers died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
