Ovie Mughelli ended his search for a new team by signing with the St. Louis Rams on Saturday the team confirmed on their website.
Mughelli, who was released by the Falcons back in May, was signed to a 1 year deal.
The Porter-Gaud alum had spent the last 5 years of his career in Atlanta until his 2011 season was cut short after tearing his ACL in Week 7. Before that he had gone to the Pro Bowl as the NFC Fullback in 2010.
Mughelli released a statement to Live 5 Saturday night saying "I think this is the perfect situation for me, from head coach with a record of excellence to an offensive coordinator who knows how to use a fullback. With the opportunity to block for a perennial Pro Bowl tailback, I know I'm in the best situation to win."
He said on his Twitter account on Saturday "I hope all the ovie fans out there hv some blue and gold in their closet bc I just signed with the RAMS today and I'm excited to help em win" he also added "A BIG THANK YOU for all the fans and friends and family that has been in my corner supporting me the past couple of months. Ill make u proud"
Mughelli was a 4th round pick of the Baltimore Ravens out of Wake Forest in the 2003 NFL Draft. He spent 4 seasons in Baltimore before signing a 6 year, $18 million dollar deal in Atlanta, the largest for a Fullback in history. For his career, the Lowcountry native has scored 7 touchdowns.
