NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

North Charleston police arrested two men Monday after heroin and pills were found in a car during a traffic stop.

Police say 37-year-old Eric Worten was charged with possession of heroin and 22-year-old John Pierre Belton was charged with trafficking heroin and possession with intent to distribute.

According to an incident report, Worten was pulled over Monday at 2:43 p.m. on Rock Street after an officer noticed the Chevrolet Cobalt he was driving had a busted left tail light. Belton and another passenger were also in the car.

The report goes on to say that Worten was acting very nervous, and after discovering he had a history with drugs, he was asked to step out of the car.

When Worten got out the car, police say he was holding a piece of paper that contained heroin.

After having the other two passengers get out of the car, police searched the vehicle and found four clear plastic baggies containing a total of 84 Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills and 9.3 grams of heroin, say police. There was also a scale in the car.

Worten and Belton were arrested and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center, and the third suspect was released.
