CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The incoming Charleston fire chief has moved to town and is preparing for her new role leading the department.
Chief Karen Brack will begin orientation on Monday and will be sworn in soon after.
Brack has been busy unpacking from the move and spending time familiarizing herself with the area. She most recently worked at the Eugene, Ore. fire department.
Brack, who is originally from Savannah, says Charleston feels just like home.
"I can't reiterate enough how humbled I am by the mayor's appointment of me to this position and by the welcome I was so graciously welcomed into the City of Charleston," Brack said. "It's just thrilling to me."
Brack will lead 19 companies spread throughout the city. She is the first woman to be named fire chief of Charleston.
