Charleston man convicted on gun charge

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A Charleston man was convicted on a gun charge this week after a three-day trial.

Benjamin Devon Goss was found guilty of possession of a HiPoint .380 loaded with eight rounds, United States Attorney Bill Nettles said.

Charleston Police Department investigators said Goss was spotted with the gun in his waistband near Johnson Street and American Street on October 4, 2010. After an officer told him to stop, police said Goss fled and discarded the handgun.

During the trial, Goss presented several witnesses, including his brother, who claimed that he was actually the person who dropped the gun that police recovered.

Goss faces up to ten years in prison and a mandatory minimum of fifteen years if he found at sentencing to have three prior convictions for either violent felonies or serious drug offenses, Nettles said.
