CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters rescued a cat from a house fire on Race Street Thursday evening.

Charleston Fire Department crews responded to a home in the 400 block of Race Street saw smoke and flames coming from the home.

Spokesman Mark Ruppel said the fire started in a room on the second floor, and flames spread into the attic and walls of the home.

It took firefighters just minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The cat, which was given oxygen, is doing fine, according to officials.
