GOOSE CREEK, SC (WBRC/WCSC) - The remains of Army Pfc. Julian Colvin were returned to Birmingham today in preparation for the soldier's funeral on Saturday.
Colvin died of wounds suffered from an enemy improvised explosive device while on a dismounted patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan on July 22, the Department of Defense said.
Colvin is a 2010 graduate of Goose Creek High School. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 1101 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Colvin was assigned to the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, N.C., and was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
In March 2011, Colvin joined the Army as a combat engineer. He attended training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., followed by the U.S. Army Airborne School and joined the 82nd Airborne Division in July 2011. This was his first deployment.
