1 can cherry pie filling
1 8oz pkg of cream cheese (soft or regular)
1 8oz container of whipped topping
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 cup of sugar
1 graham cracker or cookie crust
First, mix together the cream cheese, whipped topping, vanilla flavoring and the 1/2 cup of sugar. Then spoon the cream like filling into a pie crust and chill. Now make your cherry filling.
Preparation of the cherry pie filling:
For cherry pie filling that is too tart, place it in a small pot and combine it with the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar. Then heat the mixture. Be sure to continually stir the mixture until the sugar has melted and it is well mixed with the cherries. Now allow that to cool. When the mixture has cooled, spread it evenly across the top of the pie crust. Now allow the dessert to cool for at least 2 hours.
Note: Substitutions can be made for a healthier version by using fat free cream cheese and topping. Sweetener can also be used in the place of sugar. You can experiment with fillings, blueberry or any pie filling would make a wonderful toppings. This can be garnished by simply using more whipped topping.
