Sheriff takes stand on proposed assault weapons ban

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon took a stand on gun control on Friday.

Cannon doesn't agree with a ban on assault weapons proposed by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and two state lawmakers. Cannon says the proposed ban makes him mad.

"It angers me somewhat that folks like Jesse Jackson would take advantage of that horrific situation to promote a political agenda," Cannon said in reference to the recent shootings in Colorado.

Since the shootings at the movie theater in Colorado, Jackson and his Rainbow PUSH Coalition have been traveling the country pushing a ban on assault weapons.

Cannon says a ban would take the guns out of the hands of law abiding people and put them in the hands of criminals.
