CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a Mt. Pleasant man ran a red light on Sunday and crashed into a Charleston Police Department officer's cruiser on East Bay Street.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at the corner of East Bay and Columbus streets just after 6 p.m.

Troopers said 21-year-old Christopher Hart was turning onto East Bay Street in his Ford Explorer when he collided with the police cruiser. The officer and a front-seat passenger, who were both wearing seatbelts, were taken to MUSC for treatment of minor injuries.

Hart is charged with disregarding a traffic signal.  He was not hurt in the wreck, troopers said.
