KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Boeing is landing on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island on the chest of Ernie Els. The South African golfer, who just won the Open Championship, is first-ever professional athlete to sign an endorsement deal with Boeing.
The deal was first discussed at the 2012 RBC Heritage played on Hilton Head Island. Boeing was a secondary sponsor at that event. The arrangement wasn't complete until Els and Boeing finalized the sponsorship deal just before the start of the U.S. Open in June.
In an interview after the deal, Els told reporters he wanted to partner with the very best and he said "Boeing is absolutely the best in it's business."
'The Big Easy' has 19 PGA tour victories, including four major trophies, since joining the Tour in 1994. The best Els has finished in a PGA Championship was third in 2007 at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
