WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday evening when public safety officers say they caught him sitting on a mountain of stolen meat.
Richard Wendell Frazier was arrested in the parking lot of a Walterboro Walmart on Monday at 11 p.m.
According to a report, officers were called to Walmart on Bells Highway after Wendell, who is on a trespass notice at Walmart due to a previous shoplifting attempt, was spotted in the department store in a wheelchair.
Officers say they stopped Wendell outside of the store as he was attempting to get into a car. That is when officials say they noticed a broken crack stem in the car and a glass stem in the passenger door.
When officers began to arrest Wendell, he stood up out of the wheelchair revealing $90 worth of meat that he had been sitting on.
The store manager confirmed that the meat had not been paid for and was indeed stolen, officials say.
Wendell was taken to Colleton County Detention Center and charged with drug equipment violations, trespass of real property, and shoplifting.
