FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man and woman from Effingham are behind bars after police say they allowed six children to live in "deplorable conditions."
Captain Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said 44-year-old Corcella Dulania Isaiah and 47-year-old Michael Isaiah of Effingham were arrested on Thursday, August 9 and charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.
Those charges, according to investigators, stem from the fact that the duo allegedly allowed six children to live in their home under an unreasonable risk of harm. The Department of Social Services described the living arrangement as "deplorable conditions."
The six children, ranging from four months to 15 years in age, were taken into protective custody, Nunn explains, and were treated for malnutrition at a local hospital.
Michael Isaiah has also been charged with providing false information concerning the location of one of the kids. Michael and Corcella Isaiah remain in custody under a $150,000 surety bond.
