Plane returns to Charleston airport after striking flock of birds

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Officials say a plane that took off from the Charleston International Airport had to return after striking a flock of birds.

According to officials, a Delta plane on its way to New York City took off then struck the flock of birds at 3,000 feet.

As a precaution, the plane turned around and landed at Charleston airport, which was two miles away.

The plane is being inspected for damage.
