Lawsuits on agenda of state Maritime Commission

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The agency that oversees South Carolina's interests on the Savannah River is meeting in Charleston.

The Savannah River Maritime Commission meets Wednesday at state Marine Resources Institute at Fort Johnson on Charleston Harbor.

The agency is at the center of several disputes concerning the $650 million project to deepen the Savannah River shipping channel so larger ships can call at the Georgia ports.

Representatives of the state Attorney General's office will brief members of the commission on those lawsuits. Also on the commission agenda is a discussion of agreements to coordinate with other regulatory agencies.
