Man pleads guilty to bomb threat, child porn charges

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

An Eastover man initially accused of making a bomb threat to Eau Claire High School has not only pled guilty to that charge, but a child pornography charge as well.

Twenty-one-year-old Sidney L. Myers pled guilty to the charges in federal court on Wednesday.

Officials with the US Attorney's office say Myers made two phone calls to Eau Claire High on Nov. 2, 2011 and claimed to have placed six bombs around the school. When confronted with a phone number linking him to the threats, Myers confessed to making the calls.

During further investigation, FBI agents looked over Myers' phone and found five videos of him having sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend. Because the phone had traveled in interstate commerce, Myers was charged with a federal child pornography offense.

US Attorney Bill Nettles says Myers can receive a fine of $250,000 and/or 10 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.

Mr. Nettles stated the maximum penalty Myers can receive on each count is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for 10 years, plus a special assessment of $100.
