BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A lightning strike in Moncks Corner struck a homeowner's cypress tree smashing it into several pieces, according to the homeowner.
Tyler Chaplin said that chunks of wood flew on top of his house, into the nearby highway and into the Cooper River after lightning struck a tree in his backyard on Dennis Boulevard Friday evening.
According to Chaplin, parts of the tree had to be removed from the road so cars could get by safely.
"Parts of the cypress tree are on top of my house," Chaplin said. "I have never seen lightning damage this bad. It almost looks like a bomb went off inside of the tree."
No injuries were reported.
